Week 20:

Symptoms: Nauseous? TIRED I am sure starting this week with no naps in prep for our party definitely made this harder but I have truly been exhausted! Gas? Many talk about how it is totally common to feel constipation at this stage of pregnancy. I haven’t been constipated at all in this pregnancy yet but I have GAS! Haha. I rarely released gas before, not that it didn’t happen just not frequently. However, now I feel it pretty regularly. Back ache- my back has started bothering me much more now than ever before and I am very sensitive to picking up heavy items that wouldn’t bother me before. I am ending this week with no morning sickness, some nausea when I eat certain foods, migraines/headaches which include light sensitivity, neck and back pain.

Weight: I forgot to weigh in at the beginning of this week. So I will just do it next week. Sorry folks.

Ultrasound & Check up: I had my 20 week ultrasound and OB check up. This was the day we were waiting for. We went in and Tomek was team boy through the entire pregnancy. I was team boy until I had that dream and then I switched to team girl.

We just found out this morning, we are having….a WIZARD! A precious little boy is in our future and we are both so ecstatic right now. 1) There may be something to those wives tales 2) which apparently includes usually the dream you have of the baby’s sex being the opposite...interesting. :)

When I went in for the OB check up with hubby I was pretty sure we were having a girl I had finally gotten excited for little bows and girl stuff. When we went back for the ultrasound she said she was pretty sure what baby was but really wanted them to move first. So she went on checking healthy kidneys, great brain, etc.

She got a cute profile picture of our adorable baby….

Once she was done and told us all healthy perfectly developing she gave baby a little push and moved back. It was clear as day….our baby is a BOY!

When she said that I was looking at my belly and just look up what? She moved back and he had clearly opened his legs and you couldn’t miss our little boy! I was in such shock. I turned to Tomek and said, “Wait, we are having a boy?!” and he had so much joy on his face too, neither one of us could stop smiling the entire visit! (Tomek’s later share of course was “Like always...I was right!”). We found out baby’s heartbeat was 160 bpm, everything is super healthy, and we are in love already!! I even convinced the lady to switch to 4d imaging because I was curious what the image difference was and were were able to see our little boy with his tiny hand on his face, how stinkin’ cute!!

I was so sure because of that dream that I was having a girl so when we switched rooms and my OB came in the first thing I asked was that the ultrasound and genetic testing results were the same...Boy?! She laughed and said yes both the same she checked before coming in. I was just so excited, shocked, and in disbelief!!

So, I am here at home still trying to process the sheer joy and excitement I am experiencing. We both can’t wait to share with our family and friends that our little addition to our family will be a little wizard!

Baby’s Name: We chose the perfect name for our little boy, Patrick Michael. We actually chose the middle name first. My husband’s father has 3 brothers and 2 sisters currently living but he actually had another brother named Michael who passed when he was very young due to medical issues. They ended up naming their 3rd child after Michael giving her the name Michaela. So when we thought of having a boy we liked the idea of continuing the family name Michael as well after Tomek’s uncle. I also have family with the name Michael and so it seemed to work perfectly!

We chose the name Patrick because I loved the name. I was searching for Irish names as it is the one thing I know about my genes, being a foster child. However, it was kind of a whim searching while in a car ride about 2 years ago, since at that point we weren’t even trying to conceive. Patrick Michael also just flowed so well to me, I was stuck on it. Thankfully so was Tomek. We have gone 2 years and when we found out we were pregnant we didn’t waiver on wanting the same girl and boy names. I also know that one of my husband’s best friends is named Patrick. I know with some names I would consider that an issue but I also think that he is one of the greatest guys in my husband’s life and even if people think we selected the name Patrick after him it just shows another wonderful role model for our little boy.

Now that we know we are in fact having a boy we know Patrick will be perfect for our growing little one. As soon as our ultrasound had finished and I was getting ready to switch rooms for my regular check up even Tomek looked at me and just says, “Our little Patrick.” How could I not be in heaven! I am so happy right now. :) Our friend’s Patrick and Hannah are having a little girl (which they had already announced) and next week we find out what our other friends Gabe and Meredith are having. I just am excited for our 3 little ones to grow up together!

Saturday: I started today off having to create a new final exam for my class because it disappeared. That was a bit frustrating but I managed it and was glad to have it ready for school on Monday and not have to worry about it when we had our party.

Friend Gender Reveal- Well...haha. Initially the update was for next weekend but Gabe and Meredith decided to push it from next Saturday to this Saturday. Gabe and Meredith already have a little girl, she is so precious! So at 11am we went over to their house with family to find out boy or girl. :) When we went they had 8 eggs that were (4 blue and 4 pink) and they also explained that 7 were boiled and 1 was not. The egg that was not boiled was the color of the baby’s gender. So we all lined up, selected an egg (I grabbed the very last egg, after Tomek stole the pink one 2nd to last, and I got a blue).

We all stood in a line and on the count of 3 we smashed said egg on our forehead.

Prior to doing it I held Mere’s dad’s egg and mine and they felt the same so we both thought we were good. With no worry in my mind I held my hair back and smashed it….and I had non-boiled egg on my forehead, face, and thankfully only in my hand. My egg was BLUE! So our friends are having a little boy!!

We were so excited for them and couldn’t wait to tell them about our little Patrick too!

Upset NOT MY REVEAL: I started Sunday morning off a little frustrated because with our friends moving their party to the day before ours and us being in the pictures (heck me getting the broken egg) I had to explain many times in messages and phone calls that it was not my baby’s reveal which was even more upsetting when after all was said and done (after we did have our reveal we even had a couple people say “oh well same thing”! I wanted this to be our baby’s moment so I was a little hurt dealing with all of this. I normally would say it wouldn’t have bothered me this much but I think a big part of it did include my mood swings). Though I was frustrated at first I quickly became excited because it was our day for our reveal and I couldn’t wait for us to share our news with family and friends.

Witch or Wizard Reveal: After a week of prep we had pink and blue everywhere, a cravings bar with all the food I craved during my pregnancy so far, beads for people to wear after reading the Wives Tales and deciding what they thought was correct, games, and most of the nursery set up as well!

As people arrived we shared our nursery (I promise I will do a HP nursery post once we have the final touches done with it), had my father in law say a prayer, and eat food!

Baby Bottle Game: We filled 12 baby bottles with milk and had a chugging contest. It was quite fun to watch. I was also shocked by how quickly the winner, Garrett managed to do it! Prizes for the games were little Niffler keychains. The second game, but we didn’t get pictures of because we were both leading it, was who says what? Mommy or daddy? Then we gave prizes to the person who knew mommy the most and to the person who knew daddy the most. :)

Witch or Wizard: After the games I took the table I had started to setup in the garage (it was hidden) and put it out front. See the cute picture below.

And it was time, we invited people outside to enjoy our reveal! We had a Harry Potter cauldron that we put 4 smoke bombs inside and lit so it looked like a potion for the reveal. Then our guests saw and knew…...We were having a little wizard!

What excitement we had sharing this with everyone but we took our reveal a step further too….

Name Reveal: I walked away and grabbed a sign I had hidden. Tomek and I both explained that we were now also going to share our little boy’s name! And here we are...I think you can’t miss Tomek’s sheer excitement here, he hates smiling with his teeth showing but here it was all grin all day!

I was also had set up some picture time with our close friends who are also expecting. So here you can see our ladies picture (least pregnant to most pregnant), the daddies picture, and then all of us together! :)

(Me- Due 9/6, Mere- Due 9/2, Hannah- Due 7/19)

(Tomek, Gabe, and Patrick)

The whole pregnant trio! :) (Our 1st, Gabe & Mere expecting #2, holding #1, and Pat & Hannah’s 1st)

And that was our party! We had so much fun. By the time it was over I had a headache, I definitely had some moments where I was stressed out instead but I wouldn’t change it at all, we were so happy to share this moment with our family and friends.

Monday: On Monday I shared the video of our reveal to my class, who had been dying to know. First I took a tally of votes and most of the people that came to our reveal party voted boy but the class mostly voted girl.

They were also excited when they found out we were having our little boy. We talked a lot about the early development and pregnancy so I have been pretty open with them about my experience as well.

That really sums up this week which ended with headaches, a kink in my neck that made sleeping even more ridiculous, leading to being really tired, and attempting to clean after the party, and grading exams while falling asleep. So that is a wrap everyone! Thanks for reading. :) More exciting adventures each week, in the life of this crazy pregnant lady!
