Yesterday was AMAZING!! Yesterday I attended a continuing education bootcamp conducted by the Dr. Padesky herself over the new second edition of Mind Over Mood. Needless to say it went splendidly. My teacher, Dr. Warman, pictured above on the front left has "raved" about how amazing Dr. Padesky is and how she is a miracle worker in the CBT community. So even though when I attended I definitely had a build up of excitement it was all perfect. I had already bought the second edition, pre-order, of the MOM 2.0 and was able to have Dr. Padesky sign my book. I could probably rant forever about how great it was to learn from Dr. Padesky herself but I will leave it at two key points.... 1) I adored her metaphor about helping "selling" the use of CBT homework by explaining the "mental" fingerprint of each person is different just like an actual fingerprint and how even though we can keep throwing interventions at a person doing a log can help the client receive an intervention that best fits them earlier on. 2) The MOM 2.0 does a great job of making psychology therapy sexy! :) As my teacher stated, ♩ ♪ ♫ ♬"we are bringing sexy back"♩ ♪ ♫ ♬ Thank you J. Timberlake for our current CBT anthem. :) Other than of course the seminar being amazing I met a phenomenal lady who is a licensed clinical social worker with her own private practice focusing on individual, family, and couples counseling. The more I talked with this lady at lunch and after the bootcamp I realized how even more certain I am that I want to go into private practice, that I can do it, and that God really does have a plan for me! Also she made me recognize even more that I can follow my goals of opening my own private practice focused on counseling couples, families, and children. Obviously there was some excitement from the seminar but this lady has inspired me above and beyond and I cannot wait to be able to go out there and conduct very similar practices to her herself as well. Anyway finals week is coming up so I have to get studying but I want to thank Dr. Padesky for coming to Riley Hospital and Indianapolis to help share her wealth of knowledge as well as the wonderful lady I met who, for now will be nameless so I don't give away too much information, has inspired me and helped God show me that I am on the right path!
